# Workshops Stages

How to take a workshop through its five stages: Define, Score, Review, Treatment and Monitor.

**Applies to:** Workshop managers and members · **Module:** Workshops

## How Stages Work

A workshop moves through five stages in order. The workshop manager changes the stage on the **Edit Workshop** tab, and the **Stages** tab shows the form for the current stage. You can go back to an earlier stage if a mistake was made.

To move on, select the next stage in the **Stage** field and save.

## Define

At the **Define** stage you choose the risks the workshop will work on. Open the workshop and select the **Stages** tab. Use the plus icon to create a new risk, or the link icon to pick existing risks from the Risk Universe.

Workshops work best with new risks that are not yet in a register, scored or actioned. To create one, select the plus icon, enter a **Summary** and the **Divisions**, then select the blue tick.

The risks now appear under **Define Risks**.

## Score

At the **Score** stage each risk has its own scoring section. Only the scoring factors chosen when the workshop was set up appear.

For the **Inherent** score (no controls in place), select an **Impact** and a **Likelihood**, and add a **Score Rationale** explaining why the score fits. Here, Major and Likely give 16.

For the **Residual** score (with controls in place), do the same. Here, Moderate and Possible give 9.

Select **Save**, or the pencil to save and stay on the workshop.

## Review

The **Review** stage lists each risk with the scores it was given, so the group can check them before agreeing treatments. Select a risk to open its full details.

## Treatment

At the **Treatment** stage members suggest mitigation plans, vote on them, and the manager adopts the best ones. See [Workshop Risk Treatment Plans](https://support.symbiant.co.uk/kb/workshop-risk-treatment-plans/).

## Monitor

The **Monitor** stage shows the adopted plans. From here you add actions and escalate the risks to a risk register. See [Workshop Escalating Risks to a Register](https://support.symbiant.co.uk/kb/workshop-escalating-risks-to-a-register/).
